I Didn’t Even Know Pottstown HAD A Symphony!

…And then they bust out with Verdi’s “La Traviata”, Tchaikovsky’s Concerto for Violin in D and Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”, the ultimate “showoff” piece for a chamber orchestra, on WHYY’s Sunday Showcase. Pfeh, who needs the Philadelphia Orchestra when you’ve got stuff like that being performed a mere hour away?

Me either! …And I lived there for 17 years!

Color me impressed by their performances. “Scheherazade” is a “brag piece” precisely because it requires so much out of every single section of the orchestra: strings, horns, woodwinds, percussion, and particularly the solo violin. They really nailed it last night.

The Richard Strauss piece and the French ballet finale they threw in for good measure were mighty impressive, too.
