The Mozilla Foundation was supposed to take out a two page ad in today’s New York Times advocating a switch to Firefox as your browser of choice (full PR here). The ad looks great and, although I haven’t yet been able to verify that the ad did indeed run today, I think this marks a wonderful occasion in the Open Source world.
I think this is a wonderful thing. SpreadFirefox is keeping track of the total downloads (a little over 11 million at the time of this writing) and with the “BlogFather” Glenn Reynolds noting that around 19% of his hits are coming from Firefox browsers, it’s almost like watching a revolution in progress. People are sick and tired of messing around with the slow, bloated security nightmare that is IE and are converting to FF in droves.
If you haven’t yet downloaded Firefox, I suggest that you do so and make the switch immediately. You won’t regret it.
