BBC’s The World – Sans Yelling!

I – get ready – managed to listen to The World on NPR this evening without yelling. Amazing, I know.
Firstly, they ran a series of stories on the ongoing ethnic cleansing in the Darfur region of Sudan and they managed to point out that it’s Arab African militia killing/displacing black African civilians. They roundly condemned the atrocities and managed to take a harsher stance than the one expressed by Colin Powell. Tres surprising!
Next, they ran a story on today’s ruling by the Israeli Supreme Court. They referred to the security barrier as an “anti-terrorism” measure and talked about how it was intended to keep suicide bombers out of Israel. I practically had to fish my jaw off the floorboards.
Lastly, they ran a story on the Cassini/Huygens mission to Saturn. It’s always odd to hear someone pronounce a name/word you’ve only ever seen in print. I had always pronounced Christiaan Huygens name as hyoo-gennz, while they pronounced it hoy-gennz.
No anger, plus I learned something. All in all, a successful commute.
