If you weren’t aware, Tim Burton is directing a remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (trailer available here) starring Johnny Depp in the role of Willy Wonka. Go now, see the trailer. I’ll wait here.
You’re back? Good. A few thoughts, if I may.
- Johnny Depp appears to be channeling a mixture of Mike Myers and Michael Jackson. Truly a frightening sight.
- It definitely, definitely has a “Burtonesque” look to it. I’m not sure this was really necessary, as the first movie was already freaky enough at parts. (The “tunnel scene”, Charlie almost buying it in the anti-grav soda/spinning fans of death room, etc.).
- Gene Wilder is still alive, thus he’ll be unable to spin in his grave should the film go awry.
- That better not be the Oompa Loompas singing during the trailer, or someone’s getting a whuppin’.
That is all.
Oompa Loompa Doompa dee doo I’ve got another puzzle for you: Why does it seem that Depp’s always strung out, acting like his characters have troubles about… I believe his portfolio goal is to play every freaky strung out wierd part possible
