It appears that the number of back-and-forth emails that GMail will collect as a single “conversation” is 61. After that, it begins a new one.
How do I know this? Simple:
I recently installed Kitten’s Spaminator in order to combat that infernal “byob” comment spammer. It kindly emails me every time it catches one, but GMail interprets each of these email as a part of a larger conversation. I now have 6×61+10=376 pieces of email notifying me that the no-good-son-of-a-motherless-goat byob jerk has had another comment deleted in the last two days. The total number of comment spam attempts since Nov. 30 is somewhere around 1700. I hate some people, most especially spammers.
On the one hand, I really appreciate the whole no-spam-comments-thing, on the other hand, I’m really hating the fact that every time I check my inbox, I see even more mail cheerfully letting me know that another piece of awful spam that some moron is trying to post to my blog has been nuked.
Gah.

Excellent “Three Amigos” quote. I hate those sons-of-motherless-goats.
