Run Swanny, Run!

I have a confession to make: I hadn’t been paying a whole lot of attention to the Pennsylvania governor’s race until I heard Lynn Swann on Sean Hannity’s show about a week ago. I know it’s hard to believe that I had little interest in a political race for those of you who know me well, but I had little interest in following another Rendell run. I had heard rumors that Swann was considering a run, but until he officially announced a little over two weeks ago, I had little reason to hope that any pitiful PA GOPer would stand a chance against Ed Rendell in the general election. Then I heard the interview with Swann.
He was a breath of fresh air for this political cynic. His statements were all unapologetically conservative – he owned up on a national stage to being adamantly pro-life, in favor of the death penalty, in favor of lowering state taxes and open to the concept of school choice. He was positive and upbeat and lends a very clear voice to a conservative platform. I was so excited by the interview that I immediately headed over to his official campaign site, checked out his platform and volunteered for the campaign. Apparently, I’m not the only one excited by his candidacy, as new polling data shows him to be leading Rendell in a statewide race.
I would advise any of you Commonwealth residents that give a tinker’s cuss about the direction of Pennsylvania to vote for Swann in the May primaries, or, if your party affiliation prevents you from doing so, at least in the general election in November.
